State-of-the-art Survey of Existing Knowledge for the Design of Ground-source Heat Pumps

چکیده

The objectives of the program reported here were to gather design and performance information on historical and current ground-coil heat-pump systems, to assess the adequacy of available design methods, and to define near-future R&D needs to promote the use of this technology. The project was generally separated into two parts: (1) a review of the North American technology conducted by Battelle-Columbus, and (2) a review of European technology conducted by Battelle-Frankfurt. The report includes descriptions of basic ground-coil design configurations, operating experience, design methodologies, and reviews of costs of existing installations. It is found that further design-method development efforts are necessary to provide installers and manufacturers with pertinent design information in order to stimulate further implementation of ground-coupled heat pumps in the United States. Furthermore, a research effort is needed to develop parametric data on the design and performance of a ground-coil during cooling using heat and moisture models.

On the Design and Response of Domestic Ground-Source Heat Pumps in the UK

The design and response of ground source heat pumps coupled to vertical closed loop arrays in UK domestic applications are investigated in this article. Two typical UK house types are selected as the vehicle for the study and a detailed dynamic thermal modelling method is used to arrive at time-series heating demands for the two houses. A new empirical heat pump model is derived using experimen...

Short-Time modelling of geothermal systems

Ground-Coupled Heat Pumps (GCHP) are among the most efficient systems to heat and cool buildings. The high initial cost of these systems has hindered their growth in particular for residential applications. Better design methods are welcome to try to optimize the size and then the initial cost of these systems. In the field of ground heat exchanger design, the short-time behavior, which was bef...

Determining the optimal size of a ground source heat pump within an air-conditioning system with economic and emission considerations

One of the most challenging issues in modern-day building energy management involves equipping the buildings with more energy efficient facilities. In this paper, a hybrid system for cooling/heating for a residential building is developed and optimized. The system consists of a ground source heat pump (GSHP) as well as an electric chiller (EC) and boiler. The model is implemented in MATLAB ...

Current status of ground source heat pumps in Europe

Geothermal Heat Pumps, or Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP), are systems combining a heat pump with a ground heat exchanger (closed loop systems), or fed by ground water from a well (open loop systems). They use the earth as a heat source when operating in heating mode, with a fluid (usually water or a water-antifreeze-mixture) as the media transferring the heat from the earth to the evaporator o...
